Vestibular Rehabilitation
What type of patients would benefit from this therapy?
- Individuals with symptoms such as dizziness, vertigo, light headedness, nausea, unsteadiness, intolerance to eye and head movements, difficulty reading/concentrating, fatigue and/or clumsiness.
- They may also have complaints of: balance difficulties (either static or dynamic), gait problems - stiff unsteady ambulation, postural abnormalities, increased falls, and/or physical de-conditioning.
- They may have the following diagnosis: vestibular hypofunction, labyrinthitis, labyrinthectomy, vestibular neurectomy, ototoxicity (as in gantamicin injections), benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, post-concussion syndrome, whiplash, head injury and those with Menieres Disease.
- They may have been examined by a specialist (neurologist, otolaryngologist (ENT), etc) for other causes such as tumours, cerebral haemorrhages, or circulatory problems.
